Bath is host to the annual midsummer Redneck Fishing Tournament, held along the adjacent Illinois River. During this unusual fishing contest, anglers compete to catch the largest quantity of the prolific sport fish Silver carp. While nets and bats are permitted to assist fishermen, fishing poles as well as bows are prohibited. Instead, fishermen encourage carp to "fly" by agitating the water with their boats, thus enabling them to net the fish from the air. The annual tournament will be held on the 5th and 6th of August in 2011.[3]
